Growing Up In An Interracial Household

From Naiomi L. Pitre's own words:

"I was born a Virgo and a Horse on September 6th, 1978 in Madrid, Spain.  I have lived in four different countries.  My father is Black, and was a member of the United States Air Force.  He met my mother, who is Chinese, in Taiwan when he was stationed there in 1977.  I have a half-brother and a half-sister who are fifteen and thirteen years older than me, respectively.  They are not racially mixed, being of only Chinese heritage.  Because my father was in the military, we traveled constantly during my childhood, and my family finally ending up in Las Vegas, Nevada, where I spent my adolescent years. After high school I attended Morris Brown College in Atlanta, Georgia. The culture shock of moving to a city with a large African American population was liberating, because I’ve always identified more with my Black roots.

Both of my older siblings married Caucasian people.  My brother and his wife have an adorable son, and my sister has two beautiful girls.  Growing up in our family was growing up in the rainbow coalition!  It was wonderful.  The best thing about being raised this way was fine tuning the ability to adapt to any situation.  No matter what group of people I encounter, I am able to find some relatable topic of which to conversate.  This trait has been extremely useful in marketing my writing to the masses.  I have never met a stranger."

"My daughter is the apple of my eye.  Without her, there is no joy.  I love her with all of my heart.  She is the absolute most important thing to me in this world.  This young woman continues to amaze and amuse me everyday.  I just love her to pieces.  If you ever met her, you would feel the same."
